Perhaps the story is set in 1935 as a modern day western. I enjoyed it , but Mc Coy made far better films. I liked several of the films. where he is the Star and John Wayne is the supporting actor..

I think you may be right. 'Ghost Patrol', another McCoy film, has areoplanes (!) as being central to the theme.
